Identification
Scientific Name: Phymanthus crucifer
Adult Size: 3–6 inches (7–15 cm)
Ultra Rock Flower Anemones are among the most colorful and sought-after invertebrates in the reef aquarium hobby. Featuring stunning combinations of fluorescent reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, and intricate speckled patterns, each specimen is completely unique. Their exceptional color diversity and relatively easy care requirements make them ideal for both beginner and experienced reef keepers.
Behavior & Role in a Reef Tank
Unlike many larger hosting anemones, Rock Flower Anemones typically remain stationary once they have found a suitable location. They prefer to bury their foot in sand or secure themselves within rock crevices while extending their vibrant oral discs to capture light and food.
Because they generally stay in place and tolerate close proximity to one another, Ultra Rock Flower Anemones are perfect for creating beautiful "anemone gardens" filled with multiple colors and patterns.
Compatibility & Caution
Ultra Rock Flower Anemones are considered reef safe and are much less prone to wandering than Bubble Tip Anemones. They can coexist with most corals and reef inhabitants when provided with adequate spacing.
Their sting is relatively mild compared to many other anemone species, but nearby corals should still be given sufficient room to prevent irritation.
