📌 Identification

This unique shrimp is a color morph of the well-known Coral Banded Shrimp family (Stenopus genus).

✅ Appearance:

  • Bright yellowish or golden body with striking blue legs and distinctive banded pincers — a beautiful twist on the classic red-and-white Coral Banded Shrimp.

  • Long, elegant white antennae that wave in the current and help them sense their surroundings.

  • Compact and slightly smaller than the common Coral Banded Shrimp, making them perfect for smaller tanks.

Behavior & Personality

  • Like other CBS, they are semi-aggressive and territorial — they claim a cave or crevice and defend it from other shrimp.

  • They’re mostly nocturnal or crepuscular — often hanging upside down under ledges or inside rock caves.

  • May offer light cleaner shrimp behavior by picking at dead scales or parasites, but not as active cleaners as Skunk Cleaner Shrimp.

✅ Reef Safety

✅ 100% reef safe for corals, clams, and healthy fish — they won’t harm coral tissue.
❌ Not safe with tiny decorative shrimp — they may bully or eat smaller ornamental shrimp if kept too close.
✅ Will scavenge leftover food and help keep rockwork tidy.

✅ Care Level

  • Difficulty: Easy to moderate — hardy once acclimated.

  • Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons or larger.

  • Feeding: Omnivorous scavenger — eats leftover meaty foods, frozen mysis, brine shrimp, or small bits of fish food. Target feeding helps prevent aggression.

  • Hiding Spots: Provide plenty of rockwork caves or overhangs to mimic their natural hiding behavior.

Water Conditions

  • Temp: 72–78°F

  • Salinity: 1.023–1.025 SG

  • pH: 8.1–8.4

  • Good water quality and stable conditions are important.

Tank Mates

✅ Compatible with most peaceful reef fish and larger inverts like snails and hermits.
❌ Avoid mixing multiple CBS species in the same tank unless you have a mated pair — they can fight over territory.
✅ Not suitable with large predatory fish that might eat shrimp.

Fun Fact

The Yellow Body Blue Leg CBS is a rarer color morph not often seen in local shops — its unique coloration adds a splash of gold and sapphire blue to your reef’s caves and crevices, making it a standout invert for collectors!
