Common Names

  • Albino Cory Catfish

  • Albino Bronze Cory

  • Albino Cory

  • Albino Corydoras

Identification

The Albino Cory Catfish is a selectively bred colour variation of the Bronze Cory (Corydoras aeneus), one of the most popular and widely kept freshwater catfish species in the aquarium hobby.

It has a distinctive pale pinkish-white to creamy body, with bright red or pink eyes. Its body is short, rounded and slightly flattened underneath, with small barbels around the mouth that help it locate food along the substrate.

Like other Corydoras, it has bony armour plates along its body instead of traditional scales. It typically reaches approximately 2.5–3 inches (6–7.5 cm) in length.

Behaviour & Role

Albino Cory Catfish are peaceful, social bottom-dwelling fish that spend most of their time searching the substrate for leftover food and small edible particles.

They are active, entertaining fish that constantly explore the aquarium floor using their barbels to locate food.

They are naturally schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least 6, preferably more. Keeping them in larger groups encourages natural behaviour, improves confidence and makes them more active.

They occasionally swim to the water surface to gulp air, which is completely normal Corydoras behaviour.

Compatibility & Caution

Albino Cory Catfish are excellent community aquarium inhabitants and can be kept with a wide variety of peaceful freshwater fish.

They are compatible with:

  • Tetras

  • Rasboras

  • Danios

  • Guppies

  • Platies

  • Mollies

  • Peaceful Gouramis

  • Other Corydoras species

  • Small peaceful community fish

Avoid keeping them with large, aggressive or predatory fish that may harass or eat them.

They should also be kept away from aggressive bottom-dwelling species that compete for territory or food.

Care Level

Easy

Albino Cory Catfish are hardy, beginner-friendly fish that adapt well to established freshwater aquariums.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)

  • pH: 6.0–7.8

  • GH: 2–15 dGH

  • KH: 2–10 dKH

Aquarium Requirements:

  • Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons recommended for a group

  • Substrate: Fine sand or smooth, rounded gravel

  • Lighting: Low to moderate

  • Flow: Low to moderate

  • Filtration: Good biological filtration with stable water quality

Fine sand is particularly recommended because Corydoras constantly forage through the substrate. Sharp gravel can damage their sensitive barbels over time.

Provide open swimming areas, shaded spots, plants, driftwood and hiding places to make them feel comfortable.

Diet

Albino Cory Catfish are omnivores and require a varied, balanced diet.

Suitable foods include:

  • High-quality sinking catfish pellets

  • Sinking wafers

  • Frozen bloodworms

  • Frozen brine shrimp

  • Frozen daphnia

  • Live blackworms

  • High-quality micro pellets

Important: Although Corydoras eat leftover food, they should never be relied upon as a cleanup crew. Make sure they receive dedicated sinking foods and are not outcompeted by faster-swimming tank mates.

Tank Mates

Some excellent tank mates include:

  • Neon Tetras

  • Cardinal Tetras

  • Harlequin Rasboras

  • Cherry Barbs

  • Zebra Danios

  • Guppies

  • Platies

  • Honey Gouramis

  • Other peaceful Corydoras species

Albino Corys can also be kept alongside other Corydoras varieties. However, they generally feel most comfortable when kept in a group of their own species.

Fun Fact

Albino Cory Catfish are not a separate species but a colour variation of the Bronze Corydoras. Their pinkish-white appearance and striking red eyes make them especially popular in community aquariums.

They are also known for occasionally performing quick dashes to the water surface to take a gulp of atmospheric air, an adaptation that helps them survive in oxygen-poor environments.
