Behavior & Role in a Reef Tank

Temperament: Peaceful to semi-aggressive. They may become territorial, especially when paired or hosting an anemone.
Habitat: Often seen swimming near the surface or around anemones, rockwork, or coral structures. In aquariums, they can thrive without anemones but may adopt corals or even décor as hosts.
Diet: Omnivorous — accepts a wide range of foods including pellets, flakes, frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood.

 Compatibility & Caution
✔️ Reef safe — won’t harm corals, clams, or most inverts.
✔️ Can be kept singly, in pairs, or in small harems (in larger tanks).
❗ May show aggression toward other clownfish species or very passive tankmates when defending territory.

Care Level
Difficulty: Easy — very hardy and tolerant of varying conditions.
Water Conditions: Stable reef parameters — Temp: 74–78 °F, SG: 1.023–1.025, pH: 8.1–8.4
Diet: Omnivorous — thrives on a varied diet of quality dry foods supplemented with frozen or live offerings.

Tank Mates
✔️ Compatible with peaceful reef fish such as gobies, blennies, and chromis.
✔️ Safe with corals and most inverts.
❌ Avoid mixing with aggressive clownfish species or predatory fish that may harass or outcompete them.

Fun Fact
Ocellaris Clownfish are protandrous hermaphrodites — meaning they are all born male, and the dominant individual in a group will change to female. This fascinating trait makes it possible for aquarists to witness natural pair bonding in their tanks!
