Identification

Neon Tetras are one of the most iconic freshwater aquarium fish, known for their bright iridescent blue stripe paired with a vivid red band that runs from the mid-body to the tail. Their shimmering coloration stands out beautifully under aquarium lighting, especially in planted tanks with darker backgrounds.

 

Size:
Typically grows up to 1–1.5 inches (2.5–4 cm) in length.

 

Behavior & Role in a Reef Tank

Temperament:
Peaceful and highly social; thrives in groups.

 

Habitat:
Schooling fish that should be kept in groups of 6 or more. They prefer planted aquariums with shaded areas and gentle flow.

 

Role:
Adds vibrant color and dynamic schooling movement; ideal for nano and community aquariums.
