Emperor Tetra

Identification
The Emperor Tetra is a beautiful, slender tetra native to the freshwater streams and tributaries of Colombia. Adults typically reach around 1.5–2 inches (4–5 cm). They have a distinctive dark horizontal body stripe, complemented by rich blue, purple, and bronze tones. Males generally develop longer, more flowing fins and are often more intensely coloured than females.
Behaviour & Role
Emperor Tetras are peaceful, active schooling fish that spend most of their time in the middle levels of the aquarium. They are best kept in a group of 6 or more, where they display more natural behaviour and feel more secure. Males may occasionally establish small territories and display to one another, but these interactions are generally harmless.
Compatibility & Caution
They are excellent community fish and can be kept with other peaceful species of similar size. Avoid housing them with large, aggressive, or highly predatory fish that may view them as prey.

Fun Fact
Despite their small size, Emperor Tetras have a surprisingly regal appearance. Males often display to one another by spreading their fins and showing off their intense coloration, which is one of the reasons they earned the name "Emperor" Tetra.
