In a mature, appropriately sized and well-planted aquarium, peaceful tank mates may sometimes be introduced. Suitable companions can include certain peaceful snails and, depending on the individual Betta's temperament, some peaceful shrimp.

However, individual Bettas have different personalities, and some may actively hunt smaller tank mates.

Avoid fin-nipping fish, aggressive species, highly active tank mates and other male Bettas.

 

Tank Environment

Dumbo Lavender Halfmoon Bettas benefit from a calm, planted environment with plenty of cover.

Floating plants are particularly useful because they provide shade and help the Betta feel secure near the surface. Broad-leaved plants can also provide convenient resting areas for a long-finned Betta.

As a labyrinth fish, Betta splendens regularly swims to the surface to breathe atmospheric air. Keep the water surface accessible and avoid completely sealing off the surface with dense floating vegetation.
