Black Snowflake Clownfish (Captive-Bred)

Species:
Amphiprion ocellaris

Growth Form:
Small, laterally compressed reef fish with an oval-shaped body and rounded fins. Like all clownfish, they are active swimmers but tend to stay within a defined territory, especially once established.

Coloration:
Deep black body with bold, irregular white “snowflake” patterning. The white bands are often exaggerated, broken, or fused, giving each fish a unique appearance. Juveniles may show hints of orange around the face, which typically darken as they mature.

Temperament:
Peaceful to semi-aggressive. Generally calm but can become territorial, especially when paired or when hosting. Best kept with other peaceful to moderately active tank mates.

Tank Size:
20 gallons and up.
Suitable for nano to medium reef aquariums.

Placement:
Mid-water swimmer that typically establishes a territory within the aquarium. Often stays near a host such as an anemone, coral, or rock structure.

Lighting:
No specific requirement.
Adapts well to all standard marine and reef lighting conditions.

Flow:
Low to moderate flow.
Prefers areas where it can swim comfortably without excessive current.

Diet:
Omnivore.
Feeds on a mix of zooplankton, algae, and small crustaceans in the wild.

Feeding:
Easily accepts a wide variety of foods including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, high-quality marine pellets, flakes, and finely chopped seafood. Feed 1–2 times daily.

Reef Safe:
Yes.
Does not harm corals or invertebrates.

Care Level:
Easy.
Hardy and well-suited for beginners, especially due to its captive-bred origin and adaptability.

Ideal Parameters:

Salinity: 1.024–1.026
Temperature: 75–79°F
pH: 8.1–8.4
Nitrates: <20 ppm
Stable reef parameters recommended

Fun Fact:
Black Snowflake Clownfish are selectively bred for their unique white patterning, and no two individuals will ever look the same—making each fish a true one-of-a-kind showpiece.
